“Do Not Quench the Spirit
Nor Despise Prophecies”
by Marc Elie
The prophet Amos |
Saint Paul |
The Fifth Lateran Council (with Pope Leo X, 1513-1521) gave important information concerning the course of action to be followed regarding revelations:
“When Our Lord, through some inspiration, reveals future events to certain souls, then, as He proclaimed through the mouth of the Prophet Amos (Amos 3:7), do not command prophets not to prophesy, and, as Saint Paul says (1 Thes 5:19), do not quench the Spirit nor despise prophecies.
“We in no way wish these prophetic revelations to be numbered amongst fables or deceits, nor that their publication be hindered in any way; for not only would one be quenching the grace of that Spirit by imposing silence on prophets, but one would also be doing a certain injury to the Holy Spirit.” (Constitution Supremae Majestatis, December 19, 1516)
“Do not quench the Spirit nor despise prophecies,” that was the command given by Saint Paul in his first letter to the Thessalonians, chapter 5, verse 19. Today, he could repeat those same remarks, addressing them to the ecclesiastical authorities.
It often happens that theologians or ecclesiastical authorities are opposed to prophets and their messages, discrediting the authority of apparitions, of mystics and of revelations. If some of these revelations are approved, great care is taken to limit their nature by qualifying them as “private revelations” and therefore negligible with regard to the apostolic Revelation brought by Christ.
Instead, “to quench the Spirit” would seem to be the rule which is applied too easily by men of the Church (theologians, canonists or others) who consider themselves the guardians of Revelation which they can manipulate at times and impose upon it their own views. To listen to them, one would think that the Lord and His Mother would no longer have any right to intervene in the history of humanity and especially not in the Church. The deposit of Revelation would be frozen in a monolithic block, without any internal dynamism for development.
The biblical prophet Amos warned us in a very original way: “Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants, the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)
PROPHECIES OF THE CO-REDEMPTION
The Work of the Army of Mary was prepared by the Lord who forewarned His Handmaid of the plans He had for her in 1958, the Marian Year for the centennial of the apparitions of Lourdes, and this as of February 11, the anniversary of the first apparition. February 11, 12 and 13, 1958, would be decisive days in which the Lord would form Marie-Paule for the mission awaiting her.
Between 1958 and 2009, hundreds of mystical indications received from heaven by Marie-Paule have been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled.
During the last week of April 1958, Marie-Paule would receive courses in spirituality given by the Blessed Virgin:
“Every night, at midnight, the same gentle awakening.... My dear Mother Mary continues her course in spirituality, inviting me now to participate actively. Thus, she presents the image, manifests the wish, and then gives the command.... This is how it proceeds each night of the week. Marvelous above all marvels!
“During the first days of the month of May, it is the Lord who speaks to me.” (Life of Love, vol. II, p. 46)
Those indications of the Lord to Marie-Paule at the beginning of May 1958 constitute the great Revelation of the Work of Life of Love which heralds the prophecy of the Co-Redemption. That will be the stumbling block for the Church and Christianity. Those indications from April 28 to May 5, 1958 comprise the last chapter (53) of the first volume of Life of Love. Those revelations must be reread in their great theological elements, in order to understand, in retrospect, to what extent most of them have already been realized. I will refrain from qualifying these revelations as “private revelations”, as is the habit of the religious authorities, for this would restrict the action and freedom of the Holy Spirit. Ought the revelations of the archangel Gabriel to Mary, Joseph’s dream, the risen Christ’s apparitions to the holy women and the apostles, and the interventions of the Spirit with regard to Saint Paul, have been considered, at the time of their manifestation, as private revelations? Most certainly not...
The Holy Spirit manifests Himself tremendously in chapter 53 of the first volume of Life of Love, entitled THE HOUR OF CRUCIFIXION – WORDS OF PROPHECY. “So the hour of crucifixion has arrived.” This inspired theme takes up again the theology found in Saint John’s Gospel: “My hour has not yet come,” Jesus said to Mary at the wedding feast in Cana, the hour of Calvary and of the crucifixion. This theological identification is all the more extraordinary given the fact that Marie-Paule did not study theology or exegesis; admittedly, then, an intervention of the Holy Spirit was necessary in order for her to adopt such a formulation, so appropriate to the unfolding of the mystery of the Co-Redemption in the mobility of the mystery of the Redemption.
THE REVELATIONS OF LIFE OF LOVE
The Revelations in chapter 53 of the first volume of Life of Love: with a humble and docile reading that is open to the breathing of the Spirit, the heart enters into a determining spiritual dimension. It is appropriate to single out five themes with regard to the texts concerned, each one of which will be followed by a brief theological analysis, in order to better perceive in it the spiritual and prophetic richness implied in the revelations of Life of Love, a genuine Revelation that is akin to the scriptural Revelation.
First Theme:
The Hour of Crucifixion
by Men of the Church
“So the hour of crucifixion has arrived. And it will be those of my priesthood who will crucify you. Like me, you are innocent, but on all sides, voices will cry out that you are hateful, that you are the most infamous of creatures. All those of my priesthood who are sinning through pride, egoism, through sensuality in all its forms, will cast stones at you... But one day the truth will shine forth. I will give proof of your innocence. Then there will be weeping and a gnashing of teeth. And your hour will have arrived to give to me the souls which you will have purchased with your great sufferings. My Mother will guide you after having made you taste all the sufferings of My Passion.” (Life of Love, vol. I, April 28, 1958, pp. 329-330)
The religious authorities of every rank consult each other to try to strike down the Army of Mary and its Foundress. The crisis of priests, the loss of the faith and the advancing apostasy. The hour of grace and mercy in superabundance.
Second Theme:
The Support of Priestly and Religious Souls
“Very few of my priests will support you through their prayers, and you know who they are. These souls will not have any doubts about you, because they have always been pure, and have desired, above all things, my glory and that of my Mother.” (Id.)
“See, here and there, those consecrated souls who have followed your calvary, praying for you in their Masses... Their pure souls symbolize all such souls on earth, though they are few in number. These souls have left the world that Jesus Christ has anathematized; they have renounced the spirit of the world and have stripped themselves of the old man in order to put on Christ, and have sought the support of my Mother, the first of the Consecrated.” (Id., May 1, 1958, p. 332)
In the image of Jesus with His disciples, a minority of priests and religious accept Marie-Paule. A reflection of the great priestly prayer of Jesus in chapter 17 of Saint John’s Gospel. The spirit of the consecration to the Immaculate Heart.
Third Theme:
The Holy Women
“All of those holy women, my child, who desire to meet you, do they not deserve our gratitude?... Behold... each one has her own lot to support. They go forward unhesitatingly under the regard of God and my Mother, who blesses them. – Names are given to me.
“They symbolize all the souls on earth who suffer and who love Jesus and Mary. You will encounter them along your way later... Tell them that I love them, and that, in heaven, they will be close to my Mother.” (Id.)
The Army of Mary. In our time, the great number of women devoted to Mary’s cause. A prophetic expression of the woman’s exceptional role. The witnesses of our time. A sign of the times. The spirit of the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Fourth Theme:
The Arrival of
Sister Jeanne d’Arc
Sr. Jeanne d'Arc Demers |
“A little further, my child, don’t you see, with affection, the saintly soul of your bosom friend, Jeanne d’Arc? Pure, noble, a most worthy soul, she has a deep filial devotion to her mother. Unknown to anyone, she has suffered, and I have dug deeply into her soul to the end that she might become holy, capable of understanding the Work of my Mother. As John was for me, she is that superlative friend that you have always liked to see again. She still follows your calvary, and she retains her affection for you regardless of what those about her say.” (Id., pp. 331-332)
The precise prediction of the arrival of a woman Marie-Paule does not know, with the mention of her name, not used in the past as a practice in Communities. Previously, a member of the Community of the Sisters of Charity, and now in the Community of the Daughters of Mary. To date, Sister Jeanne d’Arc has written 67 conferences over two years, conferences delivered and published every two weeks in a 30-page booklet. She is now 83 years old. In Sister Jeanne d’Arc towards Marie-Paule, there is a similarity of role with the Apostle John towards Jesus.
Fifth Theme:
Marie-Paule’s
Co-Redemptive Mission
“You know, my child, that my beloved Mother lived on earth and that she ascended into heaven without dying! I must tell you, today that she has become incarnate, and her maternal regard has alighted upon you. It is you, my child, who suffer my Passion and who, in the name of my beloved Mother, will give Christ back to the world.
“See, your life is identified with that of my Mother....
“Night and day you have given yourself without complaining in the slightest about your lot. Accept, my child, to continue the Work of my beloved Mother.
“ ‘Let it be done unto me according to your Word, oh my Love, but for mercy’s sake, have pity on my paltriness!’ ” (Id., May 4, 1958, pp. 333-334)
“Soon, my child, you will have to devote yourself exclusively to my Mother’s cause. I have made you taste every suffering, physical and moral. Like me, you have had to separate yourself from everything....
“Have I not said, my child, ‘Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up again?...’ Was I not laid in the tomb at the age of 33 years?...
“All of this to show, my child, that there was Trinity, and to prove once more that there is reincarnation.” (Id., May 5, 1958, pp. 334-335)
The meaning and the profoundness of the Passion are taken up again in all their Marian, spiritual and theological dimensions. An openness to the tremendous gift of God henceforth manifested to all peoples. The gift of God and the source of living water. An outpouring of spirituality. The inexhaustible dynamism of Revelation.
THE MANIFESTATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The revelations of the beginning of May are a striking manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our time for the regeneration of Christianity. These prophecies took place within a particular mystical context in which the Lord guided Marie-Paule through the complexities of this world, helping her to avoid, day after day, all the traps and pitfalls of the Adversary. So many struggles and snares were forewarned and avoided in order to protect the organization of activities, the direction of the Works and the support of souls of good will. Therein lies the secret of the history that is in the process of being written. One day, the Lord said to Marie-Paule:
“ONE DAY I SHALL GIVE YOU ORDERS WHICH WILL NOT BE APPROVED OF BY THE AUTHORITIES, BUT WHICH EVENTUALLY WILL BE JUSTIFIED BY EVENTS.” (Id., vol. IX, p. 46)
The supernatural manifestations shining through Life of Love are expressed through the continuity of the Gospel and the Church; they are a great blessing for the salvation of souls and humanity. What we are seeing now of the Army of Mary and of its expression fulfilled in the Church of John was realized thanks to a constant mystical direction from Heaven. Had it not been for those choice graces, the Work of the Lady of All Peoples would already be non existent. Fortunately for us that there was Pope John Paul II...
After the example of Saint Paul, we must not “quench the Spirit or despise the prophecies”; otherwise we run the risk of delaying the Lord’s blessings for His Church. What the Lord did in the past, He is doing it again for our time. Fighting against the Holy Spirit never bodes well for the religious authorities. To throw stones in other peoples’ faces never brings about anything positive for the institution protecting the persecutors.
