MINISTRY AND APOSTOLATE IN PARISHES

Some Sons of Mary are
involved in youth ministry,
interesting them in the
activities of their parish.
In the parishes entrusted to them, the Sons of Mary priests exercise their pastoral ministry for souls through the administration of the sacraments: the celebration of the Eucharist, confession, the preparation of children for Communion and Confirmation, marriage preparation for couples, baptismal preparation for parents with a new baby, the administration of the sacrament of the sick.

Some Sons of Mary priests work in schools or hospitals ministering as chaplains to the youth or the sick.

They are aided in this ministry by the Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters of Mary, who also work in parishes by offering catechism classes, visiting the sick, establishing parish choirs, etc.

Depending on the liturgical time of year or school holidays, specific activities add to the daily apostolate. Thus, the Sons and Daughters of Mary are pleased to encourage the traditions particular to the region in which they are working, as for example, through the formation of “living manger scenes” in which children reconstitute the scene of the Nativity, and so forth.

During school holidays, camps for young boys and young girls are organized in cooperation with the lay members of the Work or the parish.

In Rome, the Sons of Mary who were studying for the priesthood worked among the poor or with thedestitute who found refuge with Mother Teresa’s Sisters, and during their free time, they visited the sick in one of the large hospitals in the city.

Over the summer, the student Sons of Mary are dispersed among the various Communities of the Sons of Mary where they offer a much appreciated helping hand in many apostolic activities.

Some Sons of Mary priests have also exercised their ministry with the Canadian Armed Forces in Canada and Germany. One of them spent a few months with Canadian troops at Qatar during the Gulf War.
