APOSTOLATE AMONG THE ELDERLY

“Virgo Fidelis” Residence at Lac-Etchemin

In order to meet the needs of elderly and sick people who are in need of help, two residences have been opened at Lac-Etchemin in order to provide a place for these people to live in a calm and serene atmosphere. These are resident Oblates who are supported by the Sons and Daughters of Mary through the various services offered them: meals, medical care, spiritual exercises, etc.

A handicraft workshop was organized in order to come to the aid of the poor while at the same time providing the residents with a pleasant and useful pastime. Thus some work at the loom, while others knit socks, sweaters, dresses and shawls by hand or machine, and still others sew or repair children’s clothes, quilt, weave mats, etc.

The items made with so much love are then given to the poor or sold to those who wish to buy them, with the profits going towards helping priestly vocations. Thus, all live in serenity, regardless of their age, happy to feel that they are being useful and are serving a cause to which they wholeheartedly adhere.

Each one is responsible for paying the costs of rent and food. The residences operate without any government grant.
