THE MISSION OF THE OBLATE-PATRIOTS

October 11, 1986 - First annual ceremony

October 11, 1986 – First annual ceremony of the Oblate-Patriots
in St. John the Baptist church in Montreal.

In an article entitled “Le Règne Social de Marie” [The Social Reign of Mary], published in the paper Le Royaume, no. 47, December 1986-January 1987, Father Jean-Claude Guillemette, Spiritual Counsellor of the Oblate-Patriots, defined their mission in these terms:

“For a number of years now, it has been evident to us that the society in which we live is hardly favorable to the growth of faith or the practice of the religion which Christ came to teach to men. In fact, what do we see in this society? Disorder everywhere. Yes, disorder in the State, disorder in the field of politics, disorder in the social domain, disorder in the family, and disorder even in individuals. Why? For the simple reason that the rights of God have been replaced by the rights of man....

“But is it possible today for humanity to regain its equilibrium in accordance with God’s plan? The answer is ‘yes’. But how? By humbly accepting the means which God Himself gives us in the person of His Immaculate Mother, Mary Mediatrix, She whom God set up as an unassailable rampart against Satan and all those who follow him. In fact, after the fall of Adam and Eve, the Creator announced the coming of a Woman who would crush the head of the serpent. By the same token, God constituted Mary the renewer of order, and only her true children will fight the good fight in the titanic struggle which is pitting, at every instant, the infernal race against the race of the sons of God. For it is Mary, the Queen, who is preparing the way for the Kingship of the Heart of Jesus, and who is disposing of all things with a view to His blessed coming. And that is the reason why the Work of the Oblate-Patriots has been totally entrusted to Mary Mediatrix....

“The Oblate-Patriot has as his mission to promote the common good of the whole of the human family through having recourse to authentic spiritual values. Consequently, it is necessary to exercise a genuine influence over all the structures of society.... Thus, after having put forth every effort to achieve our own improvement through exercising interior reform, we have widened the circle of our apostolate to include the basic cell of society which is the family. And now we have arrived at an even more crucial stage, because the fight will be even more vicious; we have to extend our field of action to society itself.... Let us remember that the action or combat that we have to undertake demands that the soldiers, the Oblate-Patriots, be not numerous but of quality, the value of whom will depend, above all, on the understanding they will have of their mission.

“But who, then, are these soldiers, these Oblate-Patriots? They are the sons of Mary who accept all the consequences imposed by this state in both their private and public life...

“The Oblate-Patriot will be notable

“To ensure his formation according to the authentic doctrine of the Church, a spiritual counsellor will be necessary in order to remind him of the basic principles in such a way that this action or activity may be penetrated by the light of the faith and the dynamism of love. Thus, as Pope John XXIII said, ‘we shall have peace if it is founded on the order which reposes on the truth; if it is built up on justice; and if love or charity fosters a climate of genuine liberty’.

“In short, the Oblate-Patriot must consecrate his life, his efforts, his talents and his time to the coming of the social reign of Mary, through which will be realized the triumph of Christ the King.”
