PILGRIMAGE IN HONOR
|
During the ceremonies which would be held in the Chapel of the Apparitions, the Army of Marys role and that of Marie-Paule were confirmed in a special way.
The trip continued with visits to the Holy Land and Italy. In Rome, an unusual phenomenon occurred at the Villa Pamphili Hotel where the pilgrims were staying. During the afternoon of October 4, when some pilgrims had decided to use their free time for a visit to Assisi, fire broke out at the hotel. The firemen arrived quickly, putting up a latter to the roof from which black smoke was billowing, as it was from certain windows. A number of other pilgrims headed outside while a few stood on their balconies. Others were still trying to locate the exits. What was most surprising, however, was that all retained their calm. Once they were reassured that no one had been forgotten inside the building, the pilgrims began singing the Magnificat under the enquiring glances of other people present. And suddenly, the smoke began to progressively dissipate and the firemen left without having even used their equipment... Then everything became quiet once again. The pilgrims hastened to return to their rooms where they had the surprise of finding their white clothing completely untouched, even though the furniture and the floors were covered with black soot. The last leg of the trip led the group to Fatima where, in that year, the 60th anniversary of the Virgins apparitions to the three children, Lucia, Jacinta and Francesco, was being celebrated.
