PILGRIMAGE IN HONOR OF
THE HOLY FAMILY
France, Switzerland and Germany
September 7 to 19, 1993

Close to nine hundred pilgrims visited various shrines in France, Switzerland and Germany on the occasion of the pilgrimage in honor of the Holy Family from September 7 to 19, 1993.

On September 8, a day commemorating Mary’s birth, the pilgrims were in Lyons where they attended Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Fourvière. The next day, they went to Paray-le-Monial, a place particularly special to the Sacred Heart, then on to Ars where the holy priest Jean-Marie Vianney lived.

Then, it was on to Switzerland, to visit Geneva and Lake of Geneva, before returning to France with a stopover in Annecy.

On their way to visit Mount Saint Odile, patroness of the region, all marvelled as they discovered this part of the Alsace region with a visit to the little village of Aubernay, which has kept its picturesque charm and is so typical of the region.

In the days that followed, the visits continued with stops in Strasbourg and Marienthal where a ceremony organized in the local basilica deeply impressed the Fathers in charge of the shrine.

A short excursion into Germany gave the pilgrims the opportunity to stop at the Cathedral in Fribourg for the celebration of Mass.

Then, it was on to the northern part of France for the last leg of this twenty-second pilgrimage of the Army of Mary.

On September 16, in the Cathedral at Noyon, the ordination to the priesthood of six Sons of Mary took place. The following day, the pilgrims were in Beauvais where they participated in an Oblate-Patriots’ ceremony in Saint Stephen church before going on to Senlis the next day for a ceremony of the Family of the Sons and Daughters of Mary in the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
