PILGRIMAGE IN HONOR OF
SAINT THÉRÈSE
Jamaica
February 6 to 13, 1994

From February 6 to 13, 1994, eighty-seven pilgrims from Canada and the United States headed for Jamaica to visit the missions the Sons and Daughters of Mary had opened there in 1992.

The pilgrims were touched by the marked contrast between the lushness and beauty of nature and the poverty of the Jamaican people. In fact, they were to visit the poorest part of the island where, in a small and humble cathedral, a ceremony of the Army of Mary would be held. This ceremony was enhanced by the presence of His Excellency Bishop Paul Michael Boyle, Apostolic Vicar of Mandeville.

While taking advantage of a visit to a few tourist attractions, the pilgrims also went to Bull Savannah where the Sons of Mary are responsible for a high school and to Black River where the Daughters of Mary are in charge of a preschool.

That is where a dilapidated house, located next to the Sisters’ residence drew the attention of a pilgrim, a contractor by trade, who, after having inspected this ancestral building, judged it to be worth renovating.

A few comments made on the spot left the impression that a second apostolic voyage might be a possibility in the future.
