Pilgrimages to Quebec by Various Peoples

“I want my people to come here in great numbers, in procession,” Mary had said at Lourdes in 1858.
“I want two thrones to be made for processions, and the bearers to be dressed in white,” she added at Fatima in 1917.

In like manner, the Sovereign Pontiffs emphasized the important role pilgrimages had for the benefit of the Church.

In 1967, Pope Paul VI said:
“Pilgrimages are placed in the charismatic line of an intervention of God in the history of humanity and of a call by the Spirit to prayer and penance through the mediation of Our Lady or of some specific saint.”
For his part, Pope John Paul II stated on February 15, 1981:
“The traditional and always current vocation of any shrine is to be like a permanent antenna of the Good News of Salvation.”

Thus it was that, in response to the calls of Mary and the Church, the Army of Mary has been organizing pilgrimages throughout the world since 1974, for the purpose of bearing witness to its faith in Christ and its fidelity to Peter’s Successor. Every time, large groups of people answered the invitation being made and travelled to different countries to visit various shrines. These groups brought together between 300, 500, 700, and 900 pilgrims from Canada and the United States, sometimes with as many as 2,000 people at Lourdes including the members from Europe and other countries.

Furthermore, during these pilgrimages, substantial offerings were given to the Holy Father as an expression of the Army of Mary’s fidelity. These donations were accompanied by Mass offerings given by members, totalling more than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) in gifts offered for pontifical works, in the space of twelve years.

For the purpose of better meeting all the demands of such an organization, the Army of Mary has its own travel agency, “Pèlerinages Mariam”, since 1988.

“During pilgrimages and in echo to Our Lady’s requests,
it is the Church which is being purified, the Church which is being fortified,
the Church which is being renewed and the Church which grows.”
