LIFE OF LOVE - II The Illuminative Life (1958-1968) This second volume of Life of Love opens on the Marian year, 1958, the centenary of the apparitions of Mary to Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes in France. For Marie-Paule, this was the beginning of a new era, according to the expression of her spiritual director, Father J.-Armand Veilleux, O.M.I. In February 1958, Marie-Paule visited him at the novitiate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at Richelieu, near Montreal. Here is what Father Veilleux wrote to her after those meetings rich in spirituality.

“March 3, 1958

“Good Lady,

“May the Immaculate Mary be glorified forever, and may she deign to glorify her Son in you and in me. We feel that she is near, that she is living, that she desires to act. Your visit here was the visit of Mary. It drew the tears from me. Storms are nothing when the soul is already in heaven. I understand your soul now and I know that it belongs to God and Mary only, so much so that Jesus and Mary will be well pleased with you and will use you in the realization of their plans.

“Your visit here was revelation to me. I know that God and Mary have deeply affected you. They took hold of you at the moment we terminated our fifteen hours spent in Heaven. Only one thing matters now: to belong to God alone. You have suffered; you will have to love.

“If Jesus and Mary give you much love, then this love must burn once and for all, and set the world aflame. Jesus needs you; never refuse even His slightest wish....

This second volume introduces the reader to the trying nights of the soul going as far as the beginnings of the night of the spirit. The soul oscillates between atrocious rendings and the fulfilling sweetness and light of Love.
