LIFE OF LOVE - VII
The Victory
(September 1970 - June 1971)

The few members of the Marian Group made up of men and women (religious and lay persons), friends of Marie-Paule, were discreetly reading the volumes of Life of Love. Among them was Canon Léopold Côté, parish priest at l’Isle-Verte, province of Quebec. Here are his impressions before he began reading the seventh volume.

“Isle-Verte, February 25, 1971

“Dear Madam,

“I have literally devoured Life of Love to the neglect of nearly everything else... I can only hope that the Lord will not hold this gluttony against me... It will give you an idea of how interesting I found this reading.

“First of all, this reading has certainly constituted one of the bright moments of my life; to see the heroic generosity with which a soul willingly submits to being hewed by the Lord, and that, in a time when man is being debased by sensuality and eroticism. And you do so with such generosity and simplicity that we cannot but be struck by your great candor.

“The title admirably sums up the contents. For it is, in fact, ‘LOVE’ that is indeed the dominant theme throughout these pages. And how it dominates! – in spite of all the obstacles that are thrown up along the way.

“And since authentic love cannot be separated from the cross, we see this cross as being extremely heavy, and present at every moment. Of course, along with all these trials there are also great joys. These are the Lord’s means of letting you catch your breath... But you come back, with extraordinary courage, to continue on along your painful way of the cross in the footsteps of your ‘Lover’. What is even more wonderful is that the two great theological virtues, FAITH and, in particular, a never-failing HOPE, are present to bear the brunt of divine demands. And that is a mark of authenticity....

“May I conclude by expressing to you all the good that has come to me – and I should also say, ‘the tears’ I have shed – in reading you. And for that, I thank the good God.

“I beg you to continue to be for our poor world, which has such a need for it, a docile instrument of Redemption in the hands of Him who should be for everyone, LOVE. And the Redemption is not wrought without the cross....

“I fervently bless you in Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Father Léopold Côté”
